OVERVIEW

This two-day workshop focuses on the planning and practice of monitoring and evaluation (M&E) in the development sector. The content is focused on the key elements of monitoring, evaluation, and learning as they appear throughout the project lifecycle—from project conception to implementation through close-out. If you wish to better understand the link between M&E activities and program success, learn more about how you can best support M&E activities as part of a project team, and master specific tools and approaches that can be applied to your current work, this highly participatory course is just what you need.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

This workshop is designed for individuals who have a basic understanding of project management but limited exposure to project learning, monitoring, and evaluation. It is not intended for practitioners who already have significant M&E experience.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

This workshop explores how the M&E process can strengthen program quality and accountability, as well as how donors’ objectives can often influence project learning, monitoring, and evaluation. You will learn how to:

  • Justify investments in M&E to drive stronger project planning, design, and implementation
  • Develop a project logical framework with clear goals, outcomes, outputs, and activities
  • Write clear, useful indicators
  • Evaluate data sources, data collection methods, and data quality
  • Identify the various types of evaluation methodologies and how to consider which, if any, to integrate into your project
  • Assess and employ methods to document, share, and disseminate learning throughout the project cycle
