Journey management underpins almost every NGO activity. From field officers traveling between remote, rural communities to expat staff traveling internationally, the ability to effectively manage travel risk is critical to an NGO’s success. The goal of journey management is to be invisible; when done correctly the organization is able to navigate the risk landscape and achieve its desired impact. While straightforward in principle, it is complex in practice. The webinar will focus on the following topics in order to provide attendees valuable tools and methods to immediately implement in their own organizations.
Specific topics will include:
- Remote supervision. The difference between what information is good to know vice need to know must be articulated in order for remote supervision to be effective.
- Risk tolerances. There are often different tolerance levels within an organization and a shared understanding of risk acceptance must be achieved.
- Risk considerations on such issues as conflict zones, election unrest, communication connectivity, weather, and road conditions.
- Authorities. Every member of the organization must understand the limits of their decision making authority in the case of no communications. For example, what decisions can a country project director make in the absence of communications with the international headquarters.
- International travel. Especially in the time of COVID, customs regulations can change almost daily. The key is setting up multiple information feeds and proactive communication.
