OVERVIEW
There is no single NGO capacity assessment tool that can be used for all purposes. Yet the proliferation of these tools has left practitioners with many to choose from but little guidance in how to select the best one. This two-day workshop places capacity assessment within its proper context and sets you on the path to improved partner assessment. Our expert trainer helps you to understand the two main uses of capacity assessments, walks you through how to design or adapt your own tool, and gets to the root of designing assessments that build ownership and capacity for sustainable organizational development. By going through a simulated assessment, you will enhance your facilitation skills to better engage your local partners in this process, and strengthen their commitment to organizational capacity development.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
NGO staff who are engaged in capacity development initiatives with their partners
Other members in the development community—government partners, funders, and others—who wish to increase their knowledge in this area
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
This workshop is an exploration of the many facets of capacity assessment, and the role it has to play in development programs. You will learn how to:
Select and employ specific tools, whether to determine partner readiness to receive a grant or to develop a long-term capacity building plan
Customize your own assessment tool, including indicators
Develop and facilitate the capacity assessment process, including synthesizing assessment results
